1. Magnotics¢â
¢º Antimicrobial and anti inflammatory
active agent for acne prone skin.
¢º Inhibitory effect against Propionibacterium
sp. which are acne-causing bacteria.
¢º Natural antibiotic agent composed
of 4 kinds of herbal extracts.
¢º Efficacy has proven by in vitro
test and in vivo clinical trials.
2. Synthetic and Therapeutic
Agents
As therapeutic agents for acne, antibiotics are usually
employed to inhibit inflammation or kill the bacteria.
For example, triclosan, benzyl peroxide, azelaic acid,
retinoid, tetracycline, erythromycin, macrolide and
clindamycin are among these antibiotics. However, these
antibiotics have known to induce side effects. Benzyl
peroxide and retinoid bring about xerosis cutis and
skin irritation if they are used excessively as treatments
and skin irritation. Tetracyclin, erythromycin, macrolide
and clindamycin, generally used to medical treatment,
have shown side effects such as appearance of resistant
bacteria, organ damage, and immunohypersensitivity if
they have been taken for a long time

In this way, scientific studies have shown that antibacterial
substances related in acne-care products break down
into biotoxins, which occasionally contaminate products
during production and exposure to sunlight in the general
environment.
3. Acne & Magnotics¢â
Acne, an inflammatory disease of the sebaceous glands,
is a common skin disease that induces inflammation at
the skin surface of the face, neck, chest, or back.
Acne develops mostly in young people due to several
factors, namely, hormonal imbalance, bacterial infection,
stress, food, or cosmetic application. Especially, Propionibacterium
acnes induces an inflammation in the sebaceous
glands or hair pore. P. acnes secretes lipase
and degrades sebum oils into free fatty acids, which
are potent acne stimuli. Therefore, P. acnes
is considered to play an important role in acne development
by secreting inflammation-inducing factors.
Based on our natural compound technology, Magnotics¢â
has been proved to be very effective against tested
on Propionibacterium sp. at a concentration
as low 2% and we also have developed Magnotics¢â as an
effective natural complex for various applications in
cosmetic field. Magnotics¢â is an optimum synergistic
combination of botanical fractions of 4 kinds of herbal
extracts which are chosen and mixed in adequate proportions
to give a high level of antiseptic activity.

In paper disk method, Fig 1 and Table 2 showed antimicrobial
activities against the bacteria. The diameter of inhibitory
zone was a linear function of logarithmic concentration
in a range of 0.25%~2%/disk against two tested strains.
¢º MIC measurement
Anti
microbial activity was also determined by MIC test against
P. acnes. Magnotics¢â showed the lowest MIC
of 0.013% capable of inhibiting the organism.

(2) ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITY
OF Magnotics¢â
It is widely accepted that the main proinflammatory
mediators induced by bacteria and their cell components
are cytokines, primarily TNF-¥á, and interleukin-8. Therefore,
to investigate anti-inflammatory effects of Magnotics¢â,
we performed ELISA for interleukin-8 and TNF-¥á in THP-1
cells. As shown in Fig. 3A and 3B, P. acnes-induced
production of TNF-¥á, and interleukin-8 in THP-1 cells
was all reduced by Magnotics¢â
Magnotics¢â inhibited production of TNF-¥á and IL-8 as
dose dependent manner up to 2% but not 5%. But in both
cases of 5%, Magnotics¢â did not inhibited cytokine production
more potently than 2%. This result led us to guess that
2% of Magnotics¢â is optimal concentration in case of
interleukin-8.

secretion of proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-8
(A) and TNF-¥á (B). Dose-dependent effect of Magnotics
treatment on P. acnes-induced interleukin-8 or
TNF-¥á release. THP-1 cells were stimulated with or without
P. acnes, and the supernatants were harvested
after 48 for interleukin-8 or TNF-¥á measurement. Data
are expressed as means +-S.E.M. *P<0.05 compared with
P. acnes.
6. Safety & Toxicity
(Dermapro Skin Testing Center in South Korea)
(1) Clinical safety Evaluation
Magnotics¢â showed no significant evidence of primary irritation
on human skin.
(2) Acute Oral Toxicity
The acute oral toxicity of an O/W Lotion contains 2% Magnotics¢â
was evaluated in rats. Twenty animals were fed 5,000mg/kg
of the test substance. Neither mortality nor other abnormalities
were observed.
7. AREAS OF COMMERCIAL
VALUE
Magnotics¢â is a powerful natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory
active agent. Magnotics¢â would be a safe effective natural
antibiotic for acne. Magnotics¢â is stable and effective
over the pH range typically found in personal care products.
They also possess average thermal stability. It has
value as an active ingredient in:
As a Natural Antibiotics:
* A few biggest korean cosmetic manufacturer are used
this ingredient to replace a synthetic antimicrobial
reagent, triclosan or benzyl peroxide. We are also providing
atopy-care products used Magnotics¢â as natural antibiotics
in internet shopping mall. (www.skincure.co.kr)
(1) Recommended Use Level
All kinds of skin, body and hair care products including
soaps, cleansers, lotion, gel, cream and so on.Usage
levels may vary from 1% to 3%, depending on the formulation,
the typical usage level averages around 2%.
* Do not use in food industry.
(2) How to Get the Most of Magnotics¢â
Do not add Magnotics¢â to the formulation at temperature
above 55¡É, where there is a heating stage. It is recommended
to add after the cooling process. If possible avoid
UV or strong light.
